THE RIGHT TO EXIST
WHALE & DOLPHIN CONSERVATION
Conran Design Group were approached by the charity Whale & Dolphin Conservation to redesign and relaunch their global brand. Director Reuben Armstrong was given the opportunity to lead on the brand launch film.
Illustrator Sarah Maycock was commissioned to design custom watercolour typography. This gave us organic textures to get creative with, whilst also building a visual language for campaigning and activism.
We brought the brand to life in motion using recycled wildlife footage, alongside bespoke animation to welcome supporters to the new identity.
We wanted the style to feel natural and relatable; to show the power of the ocean and beauty of the animals. Using colour-grading and film grain techniques we made the film feel like it had been captured by WDC’s supporters, whilst showcasing the flexibility of the identity.
The rebrand received much recognition, including a mention in Design Week’s “Best of 2012”. We also cut a manifesto TVC that aired on Discovery with Sienna Miller’s voiceover. The film was nominated for a Sylvia Earle Conservation Award in 2017.
